You’ll notice that the cover image is of Halo Halo. You might ask, what is halo halo? It’s my favorite Philippine dessert. Different people have different recipes. I remember when I was at my extended family’s rural hacienda in Quezon Province, Laurel, that the weather was so hot and humid that we would travel to Tagkawayan on railroad skit to get these at one of the open air restaurants in town. It’s crushed ice, gummy bears, sugar, ice cream and a whole lot more. There’s also a halo halo you can get at the food market in downtown LA that’s quite a bit healthier but really good. You can also get them in Little Tokyo in West LA. Try it.
